Scarecrow and Steamroller Screenprints

Scarecrow and the Steamroller
The first picture is a black and white photograph of my brother's scarecrow toy and my father's steamroller toy side by side.
I chose and arranged them in that composition, then edited the image in Photoshop to make it black and white and high-contrast to pick out some main areas.
I chose these toys because I'm interested in old toys for character and toy design and thought these two toys both looking nostalgia-esque in their old age.
I had the opportunity to do screen printing for the first time at UCA Farnham in 2017 and composed this image for the experiment.
I used a lightbox to pick out areas on different areas of colour and used the templates I had outlined to use blue, red, green and black ink, which I then printed on a few different materials.
One example on unstretched canvas
Another on coloured card-like paper
Aesthetically I like these toys and the screen printing process and may use these as inspiration for character design.
This sort of design is easy to recreate reasonably well on digital software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator so I may use this simple look for illustration in future.
I like old toys and these have lots of character, it is easier and fun to create good designs from models/toys etc. and so I plan on continuing to use 3D models for my character design process.
